My kids

Cara pushing Alex in the swing
Cara feeling like she needs her own swing...she hated it up until this point.....
Alex enjoying life

Life is going well as Alex is now one week old. Time really does fly! It's amazing how it seems like he's just always been here. Cara absolutly loves to give him hugs and kisses. She laughs hysterically at his feet, for some reason, and loves to poke him in the eyes. He takes it. I think they will be best friends!!

A day in the life of Cara

"Helping" Mimi do the dishes
"Sharing" her toys with Alex....Pops totally rescued him!

Cara loves to "share" her toys with Alex. She tosses her toys into the bassinet and waits for someone to come along and get them out for her. She is forever trying to pet Alex. She tried to get into the swing with him tonight. I think she is adjusting nicely, though. We have had a few outbursts when she wants to be held at the same time as someone is holding Alex, but not too many. I think I am in for a world of hurt when my mom leaves. She does so much aroung here!!
Oh, have I mentioned how fabulous my husband is? He apparently had to go to work the other morning and when he came back, he had my Dad with him! They totally had it planned for over a month that my Dad was going to fly out for the week. How fabulous is that?? Cara loves him to pieces. She is just at the perfect age for him. He coughs, she coughs. He sneezes, she's sneezes. He grunts, she grunts. He snores on the couch, she really tries hard to snore! It's just the cutest ever. I think that having my parents here has totally helped with her transition to Big Sister too. Well, that's it for today. More later!!

Our first day home

Today is our first day home with Alex. We got home from the hospital last night and everything is going pretty well so far. Cara had only a moment of jealousy, but then she realized that she can sit next to me and pet Alex. That pretty much made it all better. She pets him like he's the cat, it makes me laugh. I don't have any pictures of them together yet, but I will be getting some today!
Our first night went pretty well too. He woke up every two hours, didn't really want to eat, but would go back to sleep pretty much right away. He's been up for over an hour right now and is drifting back off again. I forget how icky neborn poo is! I can't wait until he starts pooping for real.
Well, I guess that's it for us right now. I should go sleep while he's sleeping. I am sure there will be more updates later!!

Welcome David Alexander!!

David Alexander Henry
8lb 10.7 oz
21 inches long
born 1:07am

My little boy finally made his appearance early this morning. He is such a handsome little man. I had thought I was leaking amniotic fluid, so around 1:30pm yesterday afternoon, Blake took me in to get checked out. The doc checked everything and couldn't find a leak. He did an ultrasound to check the fluid levels on the baby and said he was just going to check me, strip me and send me home. He said that it was a possibility that it could have been a high leak that was just a trickle, but he couldn't see anything. Well, he checked my cervix and gush, water came out. I was officially admitted into the hosiptal with plans to deliver a baby.
They gave me an epidural and after that kicked in, they broke the rest of my water. Nothing was happening after an hour or two, so they hooked up the pitocen. The contractions defenitly started then!!! The epidural wasn't effective on my right side and boy did that hurt! After an hour or two of that, they came back and gave me some different medicine that worked and the pain went away. By the time that medication wore off, we were ready to push. Three contractions later we had a beautiful little boy.
His head is a little coney and he has a few red splotches on his face, but he is just fabulous! He kind of looked like Cara when he first came out, but now he doesn't really. I think they have the same chin, though.
I am so glad he is finally here. He was worth the wait!! More pictures to come!

40 Weeks

Well, we have some decent progress. I am now sitting at 4 1/2 cm dialated and fully effaced. We all have bets on when I will actually have the baby. Mother says today, I say tomorrow and Blake is still sticking with the 21st. I don't have any contractions or anything, but the doc stripped me good and hopefully we'll have a baby soon!!!

Just waiting

Our morning routine: get up, drink a sippy of milk, eat a banana, play with toys, go back to sleep for an hour (well, I go back to sleep, I think she simply plays in her room).

39 Weeks

Not the best shot, but oh well.
Cara being her crazy self.

So I had my 39 week appointment today. I am happy to say that there is something going on! I am dialated to 2 cm and I am 75% effaced. The doc said Alex is really far down and nicely planted in my pelvis. She stripped my membranes and I am hoping that maybe that will trigger something. Probably not, though. My next appointment is next Thursday. I am really hoping to have him before then...

A Morning Nap

We totally fell asleep watching our movie this morning. Mother came in and took a picture of us. It's a rare occasion for Cara to fall asleep anywhere but her bed. I was just saying yesterday how Cara just doesn't fall asleep in wierd places like other kids....in the highchair, in the shopping cart, rarely in the carseat anymore, the stroller, nothing! I saw my friend at the commisary and her little boy was passed out in the cart. Maybe Cara just needs to be a little older. Maybe we are starting that phase now. Who knows. All I know is I woke up to Mother taking pictures of us :)

Watching TV

The treat for the day.....Cheese Puffs. She loves them!
Cara and Mimi were just hanging out watching Backyardigans. Cara LOVES the movie....Mimi could live without it. Cara is learning how to sit in her chair. She does quite well. I just never realized that sitting in a chair like that is a learned thing. Now I know :)

Oh, the woes of teething

This was the look of the day. Would you like to know the lesson I learned today? Don't take a teething baby to a Pampered Chef party. It's nothing but trouble.
