Our Loooong Day!

Let me tell you about my day. It started bright and early at 6am. Cara woke up early (for some unknown reason), so I grabbed her out of her room so she wouldn't wake Alex up. Cara does not sleep well with other people....well, she might sleep well, but nobody else does. She likes to lay with her feet in my face. Oh, and she doesn't just lay there, she squirms and kicks. I have a scratch above my belly button from her toe nail. She totally woke up crabby (probably becuase it's hot and stuffy) and is super whiney. Her temper has started to emerge also. This has also been "fun". It's so difficult to figure out what the "right" thing to do as a parent! Time-outs have really been working lately. So, on with the loooooong day that was today...
Alex woke up at 8, or rather, I had to wake him up at 8 so he could eat. Soon after his bottle, he started fussing too! It seemed as if both kids woke up on the extreme wrong side of the bed!! He continued to be fussy and super cry-ie all day long! He is normally the quietest calmest baby ever. I think he may have just been really warm. He has some kind of rash on his tummy and I think it's heat rash or something.
On with the continuing saga that is today..I was feeding Alex and Cara insisted on sitting with us (this happens all the time, so no big deal). Well today she decides to take a nose dive off the arm of the recliner. I totally acted all "mission impossible" and saved her by grabbing her ankle (all the while still feeding Alex). She didn't really appreciate being held up by her ankle, but seriously, it was much better than Cara breaking her neck.
Alex doesn't want to be held, doesn't want to be put down, no swing, no bouncer, no jumpy...nothing makes him happy. I finally just put him in his crib and let him cry himself to sleep.
Back to the shriek monster I call Cara. She does this really really really high pitched screech that lasts forever! We are working on "being quiet", but it really isn't going so well. Cara totally taught my friends son (who is 4 months older than her) how to do it. Yay Cara....
On with the day. It's now lunch time. I make Cara a pb&j. She proceeds to peel the sandwich apart, picks part of one side to pieces and throws the other slices on the floor, only after smearing the peanutbutter and jelly all up and down her arms and all over her hair. Yum.
Obviously, a bath is now needed. I put her in the bathtub, wash her off and let her play for awhile. We have been working on NOT standing up in the bathtub. Well, she totally does, falls and smacks the side of her face on the tub. This is the second time she's done this in two days. Grr. I get her out of the tub, dry her off, get her dressed and put her down for a nap. Alex wakes up and is still cranky.
Have I mentioned the horrific headache I have at this point?
I finally get Alex fed and he wants to go back to sleep. This is fine with me. He goes back down and I have maybe an hour before Cara wakes up to get started on my laundry that has been piling up for the last week. I am not quite sure how laundry piles up soooooo quickly, but it does.
Cara wakes up and seems to be in a better mood. Yay! This lasts for about an hour. She keeps grabbing her diaper, so I know that her diaper rash is bugging her. I give her applesauce for a snack and this also goes all over her arms like lotion and in her hair like shampoo. Another bath is called for. I rinse her off and let her play. She totally doesn't stand up this time. A plus for the day!!
We get her out of the tub and start putting her clothes away in her drawer. Her laundry has been piling up in my room over the last week or so becuase I do it after she goes to bed, then I can't put it away becuase she is sleeping. Alex wakes up and seems to be in a little bit of a better mood. Another yay!
This lasts for about a half an hour. I get thier room cleaned up and the laundry put away, which is fabulous. Cara continually tries to reach Alex in his crib. Her temper flares and she has to sit in time out. She has started to kick at this point. I am unsure how to deal with this. We are working on it, though.
Alex goes down for yet another nap and Cara and I work on folding some more laundry. She wanders to her toy room and gets her shopping cart full of food. She rolls it down the hallway into my bedroom. It runds into my bedroom door, she screams in anger. I tell her to figure it out, becuase seriously, she doesn't need to get angry over little things that don't go smoothly! She walks the shopping cart around my bedroom screaming whenever it hits anything. I now take the cart away from her becuase it's just obviously too much for her to deal with at the moment. I contemplate putting her down for another nap as I look at the clock. It's supper time.
Cara now knows how to climb things. This has also been fun...She can now climb up at the table and sit herself in her booster seat. You would think this would be a help, but it doesn't. She sits there and cries until the food gets brought to her. I finally get her food to her and sit down for the ten or fifteen minutes it will take for her to eat. It takes all of five minutes for her to eat what she wants and throw the rest on the floor. I get her cleaned up and hook the portable dvd player up in her room so she can watch Backyardigans until bedtime (we have 45 to go). I get the supper cleaned up and Cara comes wandering out with her sippy of milk. She somehow has unscrewed the cap enough to be leaking milk everywhere and everytime it drips on her, she cries. I re-wipe her up again and we start to get ready for bed. We go to brush her teeth and she apparently has an aversion to her toothe brush tonight. She is crying the entire toothbrushing. We go get her pacifier and I lay her down to sleep.
I havn't heard a peep since :)
Alex woke up, ate and went back to sleep again! I think he might be growing or something, but he isn't crying so that's a huge plus.
So now, I sit here in a quite house, waiting for the little boy to wake up and eat. My headache has finally gone away for the most part and life is relaxing. The house is an utter mess, but I can work on that tomorrow. I got to talk to Blake, which always makes the day brighter, and I just know that tomorrow will be a happier day!
